Obiri Daniel specializes in the creation of realistic images using graphite pencils, round ball pin pens and color pencil. He’s also a striving hip-hop artiste.

For this exhibition, Obiri focused on six pencil renditions of authors Efua Sutherland, Amma Darko, Nana S. Achampong, Ayi Kwei Armah, Ama Ata Aidoo and Peggy Oppong.

He used great delicacy and softness to maintain a light touch by keeping the shading on faces as minimal as possible. When drawing shadows he  avoids rubbing his shading into the paper, which can create a dull effect – instead he likes to build up fine layers of hatching which can better convey the quality of skin.

Daniel currently holds a diploma in Micro-economics from Galway, Ireland.
